For Instance near the beginning of this 007 flick, Bond walks out of a building in Spain and in the background is artist Jeff Koons' Puppy. It's a 38 foot tall sculpture made of flowers.

So as you all know are history is important to a lot of the art that we do today. For Instance in Stendahl Syndrome. A female detective, who suffers from Stendahl Syndrome, tracks a serial killing rapist. Her affliction causes her to hallucinate, get dizzy, and sweat when she's in the presence of great art. Naturally, the bad guy lures her into the Uffizi Gallery in Florence, home to Botticelli's Birth of Venus.

For Instance in the memorable opening sequence, Indiana Jones makes it past several booby-traps to arrive at a small, gold sculpture of a squatting woman. The work is based on a stone, Aztec sculpture from the late 15th century showing a woman squatting and giving birth.

So as you all know are history is important to a lot of the art that we do today. For Instance in the last of the Jones trilogy finds Indiana, and his dad Sean Connery, in search of the Holy Grail. The quest leads to a "lost city," which is actually the site of Petra. Petra was swallowed up by the Roman Empire and her classical architecture shows influence from the Romans and earlier Greeks.

Exhibition Joins Old and New

In attempts to repopularize ancient art an exhibit entitled “Nautilus: Navigating Greece” is set to be on display in Brussels for three months. The exhibit will showcase more than eighty ancient and modern greek works from various museums and private collections. The goal is to highlight Greek cultural heritage in a unique and inviting way. Cornell Returns 'Stolen' Tablets to Iraq

Yet another controversy consumes recovered ancient art. Antiquities collector Jonathan Rosen began donating and lending close to 10,000 clay blocks from the 4th Millenium BC to offer scholars a chance to understand daily life in ancient Mesopotamia. Despite their access to such important information, Scholars at Cornell were unhappy with the arrangement, suspecting the tablets were looted after the 1991 Gulf War.    After investigation by the department of homeland security, it was revelaed the tablets were in fact wrongfully taken. Research Continues to Find Falconry Manuscripts

As if falcons weren't cool enough it turns out there is an art to training them called "Falconry." This artfrom has been a tradition for thousands of years in the middle east, but it's history is a bit unclear. Two french researchers have been changing this. Patrick Pallait and Catherine Tsagarakis work for the Middle East Falconry and have uncovered more than 45 manusripts detailing its history, but the rarest of all is eluding them. Brazilian Pigs Make Rare Discovery

The Wildlife Conservancy in Brazil is at it again. While researchers were following the actions of the white-lipped peccaries (cousins of the truffle sniffing pigs) They wandered upon undiscovered cave paintings of various animals on the Cerrado plateau. For Instance Sarah Wynter plays Alma Mahler, a woman in turn of the century Vienna who was romantically linked with some of the most famous artists and musicians of her day. She was married to the composer Gustav Mahler (Jonathan Pryce) and later had an affair with the troubled painter Oskar Kokoschka (Vincent Perez), whose painting The Bride of the Wind is the source for the film's title.

So as you all know are history is important to a lot of the art that we do today. For Instance Charlton Heston brings his booming "Moses" voice to the story of Michelangelo. Although you see Heston on his back, painting the Sistine ceiling, we now know that Michelangelo painted while standing. Still, a great movie. Rex Harrison (Dr. Doolittle, the ORIGINAL one) plays Michelangelo's tempermental match, Pope Julius II. Look for the scene where Michelangelo receives his inspiration for the Creation of Adam section of the ceiling.

So as you all know are history is important to a lot of the art that we do today. For Instance did you know that the renaissance had counter-reformation, in which brought out religion through art which influenced the art style of that time. Which is why in some movies and music religion is referred to within it.

Egyptian Jewelry

I have always been fascinated with Egyptian art. It just amazes me how most of their jewelry is made out of pure gold. I always wondered how they made their jewelry so flat and even shaped them. I also wonder how they designed them. I think their jewelry is really good considering they don't have the material we have in present day.

Vishnu

This is a statue of Vishnu who is an Asian god. I saw this art work of him over at the Emory Museum and really liked it. I assumed they made Vishnu the tallest character in the piece in order to represent his power and superiority such as it has been done in other parts of the word when representing an important figure/person. 

 

This is a photo taken from Pompeii, as we've just learned in class. I had the amazing opportunity to visit this unreal place when I was 12 years old. I really can't explain how cool it was; even at such a young age I could see the value it had and I felt that it affected me in a big way. Walking through the alleys and even stepping right in someone's living room was even unnerving in a way. It's a lot like a ghost town, but also a mixture of feeling so dead but also feeling so alive. If you ever have the opportunity to visit this must-see place, do so. It will change your life and you probably aren't going to see anything as impactful or morbidly beautiful as long as you live.
