Field Trip Report 2
Last week I
attended to art history professor Rosemary Erph’s lecture called as “Things
That Make You Go ‘Hmmm?’ about Venice Biennale of Art 2013. I am still
wondering why she preferred to give name of 90’s pop music song by the band C+C
Music Factory, to her lecture.
Despite all the works she showed in her presentation such as series of meat paintings made with airbrush or Marc Quinn’s huge nude, pregnant sculpture without arms in Saint Mark Square my favorite series was made by artist from Iraq, called “Saddam is Here”.
“Saddam is Here” is a basic but extremely effective photography series. Basically, Iraq citizens holding picture (mask) of Saddam’s face on their own face. It was one of the series that I consider as Idea was beyond the technique. Artwork reminded me the quote “Behind this mask there is more that just flesh. Beneath this mask there is an idea.. and ideas are bulletproof” –Alan Moore, V for Vendetta.
